Home Remedies to Get Rid of Dark Knuckles


There is a popular misconception that dark knuckles are the aftermath of using bleaching cream on the skin. Some women with dark knuckles always lack the confidence to wear certain fashion accessories because of this misconception. And then, there is public ridicule and stigmatization for people with dark knuckles.

Dark knuckles are caused by a lot of medical conditions, for instance, skin dryness could result in dark knuckles. When the skin becomes dry due to exposure to harsh chemicals or too much washing, it often leads to the darkening of knuckles. Also, some diseases like Psoriasis and eczema contribute to dark knuckles.

It is important to know that some dark knuckles may be inherited or maybe a reaction to a particular drug you are taking such as oral contraceptives amongst others. It could also be a result of an underlying condition that needs to be treated like diabetes. Dark knuckles are not restricted to any age as anyone can have dark knuckles.

Some home remedies to get rid of dark knuckles…

1. Lemon juice: lemon contains nutrients that are essential for restoring your health. It also contains vitamin C which is popularly used for rejuvenating the skin.

        To use, mix a spoon of lemon juice, and add a pinch of turmeric. Apply to the affected area and leave on for about 20 minutes before washing off with water. Do this every night before going to bed. The continuous application will work wonders for you.


2. Using almonds: Almonds are rich in protein, zinc, magnesium, calcium, and omega-3 that helps to nourish and soften the skin when applied daily.

        To use, mix crushed almonds with honey, and apply the paste to your knuckles. Leave for 10 – 20 minutes and wash off. Use daily for maximum results.


3. Moisturize knuckles with goat milk: Dark skin tones and pigmentation can be lightened by applying goat milk on the affected areas every day. It contains high lactic acid with skin lightening properties.

        To use, mix goat milk with vitamin E oil, and apply on dry knuckles. Leave for 15 minutes and wash off.


It is a good idea to always moisturize your knuckles and hands. Use sunscreen when you are outside even if your skin is naturally dark. Moisturizers and sunscreens won’t lighten your knuckles but they will prevent damage and irritation from the sun and harsh weather conditions.
